The Open text question type allows respondents to write their own answer in an open input field. This is useful when you want people to explain something in their own words, give feedback, describe an experience, or provide a short written response.
In Enquete, you can change the input style of an open text question depending on the kind of answer you expect. For example, when you only need a short answer, such as a name, job title, comment, suggestion, or short feedback sentence, you can change the input style to a Text field (single-line).
This helps keep your survey cleaner, simpler, and more precise for respondents.
Go to your surveys and open the survey that contains the open text question you want to change.
In the survey editor, select the question you want to edit. The question settings will appear in the editing panel.
In the question settings panel, make sure you are on the Main tab.
Under Type, the question should be set to Open text. This confirms that the question allows respondents to enter a written answer.
Next to the Type field, you will see the Input style field.
This setting controls how the open text answer field appears to respondents. In the screenshot, the input style is set to Text field (single-line).
Use this option when you expect a short answer from the respondent. A single-line text field is best for brief responses because it keeps the answer area compact and easy to complete.
Click the Input style dropdown.
Select Text field (single-line) from the available options.
After selecting this option, the open text question will use a single-line input field instead of a larger text box.
Changes appear in the preview instantly. After changing the input style, check the survey preview to make sure the question looks the way you want.
The question should now appear as a single-line input field where respondents can enter a short text answer.
You can also add Helper text to guide respondents on what kind of answer they should provide.
For example, if the question asks for a suggestion, you can add helper text such as:
If respondents must answer the question before submitting the survey, enable the Answer required option under Required.
If this option is disabled, respondents can skip the question.
Use Text field (single-line) when you expect a short and direct answer. For example:
If you expect longer feedback or detailed explanations, use a larger open text input style instead.
