The Show Question Numbers setting lets you control whether the questions in your survey are displayed with numbers such as 1, 2, 3, and so on. This setting affects how the survey is presented to respondents and can change the overall feel of the survey interface.

Showing question numbers can be useful when you want to give respondents a clearer sense of structure and progression. Numbered questions can make a survey feel more organized, especially when the survey contains multiple sections or a larger number of questions. It can also make communication easier when respondents need to refer to a specific question, for example when giving feedback or asking for support.

Hiding question numbers can create a cleaner and more natural reading experience, especially for surveys that are short, conversational, or designed to feel less formal. In some cases, removing numbers can help reduce the sense that respondents are moving through a long list of items, which may make the survey feel lighter and less rigid. This can be helpful when you want the experience to feel smooth and less structured from the respondent’s point of view.

The best option depends on the type of survey you are creating. If clarity, order, and reference are important, showing question numbers may be the better choice. If you want a more minimal and less formal presentation, hiding the question numbers may be more suitable.

Step 1: Open the survey you want to edit

Go to the survey you want to update from your dashboard and open it. At the top of the survey page, click the Edit button.

This will open the survey editor, where you can manage the survey content, preview, and settings. At the top of the editor, you will see the main controls used to customize how the survey appears and behaves.

Step 2: Open the survey settings

In the survey editor, click Settings at the top of the page.

This opens the Survey Settings panel on the right-hand side of the screen. In this panel, you will find different sections that allow you to control the survey layout, display, and response behavior.

Step 3: Scroll to the Display section

In the settings panel, scroll down until you reach the section called Display.

This section contains several display-related toggles that affect how the survey is presented to respondents. It is where you can manage visual options such as whether question numbers are shown or hidden.

Step 4: Toggle Show Question Numbers on or off

Under the Display section, find the toggle called Show Question Numbers. Switch it on or off depending on how you want your survey to appear.

When this setting is turned on, each question will display a number based on the order in which it appears in the survey. When it is turned off, the questions will still appear in the same order, but the numbers will no longer be visible to respondents.

Step 5: Save your settings

After choosing your preferred option, click Save Settings at the bottom of the settings panel.

This applies the display setting to your survey and updates how the questions are shown in the preview and to respondents.

After saving, look at the survey preview in the editor.

If Show Question Numbers is enabled, you will see each question numbered according to its position in the survey. If the setting is disabled, the questions will appear without numbers. This allows you to immediately confirm that the display option has been applied as expected.
